If you ever wondered what fuels the vibrant energy behind our Special Education office, look no further than Wendy Snider. Wendy’s journey is a testament to the joy and fulfillment that comes from being curious and never shying away from learning something new.
From a very young age, Wendy was drawn to creative pursuits, whether it was baking with her grandmother or learning to crochet—albeit in her own unique, left-handed twist. “I like to learn. That’s it,” she says. “Someone would say something like, ‘Oh, I made that,’ and I’m like, whoa, that sounds like fun. And next thing you know, I’d start researching it or pick up and do it.” Her enthusiasm for exploring new skills is simply contagious.
One hobby that has especially captured Wendy’s imagination is soap making. It started when a “melt and pour” soap kit popped up on her Pinterest feed, and soon she was crafting her own goat milk soaps and lotions with all-natural ingredients. “After I’ve used the goat milk soap and lotion…it’s so different. It’s all natural,” she explains. Wendy enjoys experimenting with different scents and ingredients, making everything from exfoliating gardener’s soap with lemongrass and pumice to monthly creative projects with her online soap-making group. Friends and family now rave about her homemade creations and often request more.
Wendy’s passion for learning doesn’t stop at soap. She’s always looking for her next adventure, whether it’s milling her own flour, making homemade pasta with her grandchildren, or starting a sourdough starter from scratch. For Wendy, every new skill is an opportunity to connect with her family, improve her well-being, and experience the joy of creating something by hand. “I saw something pop up that said, ‘Learn a new craft a week.’ Almost overwhelming, but exciting!” she laughs.
Wendy’s story is an inspiring reminder: it’s never too late to learn something new, try a creative project, or rediscover a lost art. Her curiosity and willingness to experiment encourage all of us to keep learning and growing—no matter where we are in life.
