Sophomore Jamiya Jones could be heard walking from afar after her three medal evening at the Big 12 Conference Championships.
Jones took second in the triple jump and sixth in the long jump. Meanwhile, Jones helped the 4×200-meter relay team race to a fifth place. Niara Young, Shanavia McGhee, and Cha’Miya Winters were the other members of the relay.

In addition, Quinaya Randle took ninth place in the 100-meter hurdles and eighth place in the 300-meter hurdles. Nyla Turner set a new PR in the 800-meter run, while Amari Williams set a new PR i the 400-meter dash. In her fourth event, Jones set a new PR in the 200-meter dash at 27.05.

The arts were alive with energy, creativity, and school pride at the Gerald M. Brookhart Spring Celebration of the Arts as students from the Preparatory School for the Arts at Peoria High School showcased the incredible talent found across the fine arts programs. From powerful musical performances to captivating visual displays, the event highlighted the passion and dedication of PHS students and staff. The Gerald M. Brookhart Spring Celebration of the Arts served as a powerful reminder of the importance of arts education and the incredible impact the fine arts have on students and the school community. The afternoon celebrated not only student achievement, but also the creativity, collaboration, and pride that continue to define the arts at Peoria High School.

The Lady Lions returned to the track at home, hosting Washington and Peoria Richwoods. Only partial results were uploaded, but leading the way were the following: The 4×200 relay of Ch’miyah Winters, Shanavia McGhee, Niara Young, and Jamiya Jones ran a new PR of 1:50.80 to win the event. In addition, the combination of Winters, McGhee, Young, and Khanise Norman took second in the 4×100 relay with a time of 51.91. Winters capped her day off with new PR in the 100-meter dash with a time of 13.50. Idalia Ramos ran a new PR in the 800 with a time of 3:19.26, while Harmony McGhee, Amari Williams, Lamya Haynes, and Zaniah Buckner each ran a new PR in the 400-meter dash.

The Peoria High E-Sports team competed in sectionals for the second time at Limestone High School. Our Super Smash Bros Crew of: Ry'sean (Freshman), Draven (Sophomore), Victor (Sophomore), Jakie (Sophomore), Payton (Senior), and team captain Josh (Junior) came in 3rd place overall. Last Thursday, the band, orchestra, choir, and visual arts hosted nearly 300 middle school students to prepare for the Peace Plays in Peoria Event next month. Band, Orchestra, and Choir students participated in a mass rehearsal with students from PHS and many of our feeder schools. Visual art students also collaborated on a mural that will be presented at the event on May 14th at the Riverfront Museum Sun Plaza.
