With contests lined up against Mahomet-Seymour and Danville, the team has an opportunity to enter Regionals with a record above .500. On top of that, the team’s freshman quarterback has an opportunity to crack 1,000 yards rushing on the season. The science department has been taking advantage of the beautiful weather lately to connect with nature. In Mr. Dupree’s class, high school biology students did a systematic analysis of our ecosystems being able to classify the different parts of it and determine what exact biome we currently live in. In Ms. Garrett’s class, AP Environmental Science students completed a hands-on field lab investigation. During this field exercise, students analyzed and compared various soil samples across three key factors: Soil Type: Classifying soil texture, composition, and characteristics. Moisture Content: Measuring water retention in different sample locations. Soil Ecosystems: Cataloging and observing the living organisms inhabiting the soil. The next component of the project: Students will design and construct a suitable micro-environment to support and sustain the living organisms they discovered during their field research.

Band and Art participated in the Peoria Area GO Day hosted by the Riverfront Museum and the Greg & Dan Show. This event mashes arts and athletics together. The largest cross-country invitational in the state of Illinois will take place in Peoria this Saturday. Putting on an invitational that will feature hundreds of schools and thousands of runners is no easy task. It’s preparation that dates back to the beginning of September. With a combination of youth and veterans, there is plenty to be excited about for the girls tennis team. “Our goal is to improve every day,” said second year coach Logan Dooley. “Although we have some returning players, our roster is still made up by majority newcomers. STUDENT SPOTLIGHT!!! If you know Peoria High Senior Chase, you know that he has an unusual hobby: currency collecting. Individuals who pick up this hobby are very passionate about it; they love to examine the coins and paper bills to learn about the history and culture from the various countries. Another week in the books featured some grand performances from the Pride of the City. The football team took that first big step towards making a run at qualifying for the IHSA playoffs with a win over Danville. The Lady Lions were excited to enter the 2026 Girls Flag Football season with a strong returning core, talented newcomers, and an experienced coaching staff ready to take the program to the next level. Ten returning players from last year’s 3-6 season are showing their experience as the team has already matched their win total from last season. A long two-hour drive will provide plenty of time to think. The trip to New Lenox is the next stop for Week 2 football as the Peoria High Lions will travel on the road in a non-conference matchup with the 7A power Lincoln Way-West. Congratulations to Coach Schroeder! Tonight, coach picked up his first career victory as a head coach after the Lions took down East Peoria 7-0!

With a 7-0 win over East Peoria, the boys soccer team broke an 18-game losing streak going back to 2024. New head coach Robert Schroeder has loved what he has seen from his group so far in the early parts of their young season. With a freshman goalkeeper and a junior-laden team, the future is bright as well. For now, with over 40 players on the junior and varsity rosters, the boys soccer team has plenty to smile about these days. After allowing 5 goals in the first half, the Peoria High Lions responded and readjusted. The Lions held the Champaign Central Maroons scoreless in the second half but still came up with the 5-1 loss.

Peoria is the home for cross country. Detweiler Park is the host of the state cross-country finals, while the Peoria High Invitational and First to the Finish are the largest cross-country invitationals in the state of Illinois.
