Today, the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) released the annual Illinois Report Card, offering a deeper understanding of the academics, climate, and culture of each school and a quantitative look into Peoria Public Schools’ standing as a District.
The best word to describe PPS’s position in respect to the report card is growth. The table below details the designations for both the 2018/19 school year and 2021/2022.
Designation | 2018-2019 | 2021-2022 |
---|---|---|
Exemplary | 1 school | 2 schools |
Commendable | 8 schools | 12 schools |
Targeted | 6 schools | 4 schools |
Comprehensive | 8 schools | 7 schools |
As shown, 56% of PPS schools are designated commendable or higher, compared to only 39.1% in 2018-2019. 9 schools improved in designation compared to 4 in 2019.
Charter Oak Primary School and Reservoir Gifted Middle School were recognized as exemplary schools, placing them in the top 10% of schools state-wide. Franklin Primary School, Harold B. Dawson Jr. Middle School, and Manual High School, 3 schools located in some of the most distressed zip codes in the State, rose from the lowest designation to commendable.
The growth of Peoria Public Schools is a testament to our skilled educators, dedicated board members, resilient students and families, and critical/constant support from community partners and the wider Peoria community. With a clear vision and well-demonstrated strategies, we will continue to accelerate learning and provide more opportunities and growth for a remarkable future for every student.
With gratitude,
Dr. Sharon Desmoulin-Kherat, Superintendent
