Northmoor 3rd grade students had a huge surprise when Minh Nguyen, a former crew member for the band Coldplay, joined them on Zoom. He was with the band for the last 4 years and just finished the last leg of the tour working Utilities. What’s that you ask? A little bit of EVERYTHING!
The 3rd graders were learning about sustainability with the story Judy Moody Saves the World. Mrs. Henderson introduced all of the ways the band Coldplay changes the world through their sustainability efforts. Ms. Martinez, Miss Szaltis, and Mrs. Henderson all taught about these efforts. Minh then surprised the 3rd graders with a Zoom call to discuss the sustainability of the Coldplay tour. Some things he shared were for every ticket sold; a tree is planted. With this tour alone, they have planted over 10 million trees. They head a huge ocean clean up project. During the shows, they have kinetic dance floors and stationary bicycles that collect energy to power the next show. They also collect energy through wind turbines. Another huge initiative was not having plastic bottles at any of their shows and having refillable water stations provided. The lesson the students learned throughout the week was if everyone does their part, we can all make a big impact.
A special shout out to Minh for taking the time to talk to us!
