Developing the Whole Child

We believe all children can learn and will benefit from high expectations that are: individualized, interest-based, developmentally appropriate and aligned to support the whole child.

The Illinois Early Learning and Development Standards provide guidance to teachers in our Early Childhood programs for creating developmentally appropriate, meaningful experiences for our students that will strengthen their intellectual dispositions and support their continuing success as learners. These standards include performance indicators and benchmarks in Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, The Arts, Social/Emotional, and Physical Development that are derived from scientifically based research. Observant and responsive teachers use these standards to adapt the curriculum, learning environment, materials, and equipment to provide engaging and challenging opportunities.

Encouraging children to meet challenges creatively and collaboratively while applying critical thinking skills to their world prepares them to enter Kindergarten school-ready and eager to learn!

Screening

Screening is REQUIRED for all children who would like to enroll in Early Childhood and Pre-K programs at Valeska Hinton. Call 309-672-6810 to make an appointment!

Project SCREEN provides FREE developmental screenings for all children between the ages of 2 yrs. 9 months and 5 years old who live in the Peoria Public School District.

The screening will include vision and hearing, basic concepts, speech/language, motor skills, social-emotional and self-help skills. Developmental screenings provide important information to help us support your child’s development and serve as the first step in assessing a child’s school readiness.
