Solar Panels Delivered to WCTC

It was an exciting morning at Woodruff Career and Technical Center (WCTC) when the school’s long-awaited solar panels were delivered and hoisted to the roof by crane.
The school’s solar panels were funded by grants from a lawsuit settlement instigated by three environmental organizations against Vistral Electric, owner of the E.D. Edwards coal plant.
The grant to Peoria Public Schools included $1,148,772 to purchase and install solar panels to offset the district’s utility costs. An additional $258,640 has funded the development and establishment of a Renewable Energy Skills program at WCTC which began this year. The program will train PPS high school juniors and seniors on the assembly, installation, and monitoring of solar panels and other clean energy jobs.
