Peoria Public Schools families staff,
As we prepare for the upcoming 2021-2022 school year, I want to provide an update on the COVID-19 mitigations that will be in effect at our district school buildings.
I announced at our Board of Education meeting last night that Peoria Public Schools will be adopting a universal masking protocol to start the school year. We have worked side-by-side with the Peoria City/County Health Department and its lead administrator, Monica Hendrickson, throughout the pandemic, and our district will continue to heed their expertise and recommendations.
We understand that masking and physical distancing in our schools are key prevention strategies, particularly as COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations are on the rise locally. COVID-19 testing with our partners at Reditus Labs, contact tracing after positive cases and thorough cleaning procedures will also remain a stalwart part of our COVID-19 mitigation efforts.
I continue to urge our families to consider getting the COVID-19 vaccine for their student and will prioritize hosting vaccine clinics at our schools for the benefit of our families and community. High COVID-19 vaccination rates locally are the most direct route back to normalcy.
Further information on our COVID-19 plan for the school year will be shared with you in the coming weeks at the district level and by your principal. In the meantime, please add a mask to your school supply list and stay safe the rest of this summer.
