Art teacher creates Tiger murals

Trewyn School art teacher Stephanie Mays spent three weeks in September painting colorful Tiger murals in the school hallways.

Mays teaches art at Trewyn and Calvin Coolidge Middle School. After studying painting and printmaking at Savannah College of Art and Design in Savannah, Georgia, Mays transferred to Illinois State University where she earned Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in art education.  In addition to teaching, Mays is a working artist, most recently exhibiting her work at Peoria’s Sheridan Gallery last year.

Stocking up on art supplies is frequently a challenge for Peoria Public School art teachers, including Mays. Her teacher webpage asks for contributions of good plastic bags for clay storage, newspapers, cardboard, fabrics, foam core and any other art supplies. She also has a DonorsChoose page to raise funds for art supplies.
