Parent University heads to Peoria Riverfront Museum, April 20

The final Parent University of the 2016-2017 year will be held Thursday, April 20 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Peoria Riverfront Museum. The host schools are Rolling Acres Middle School and Hines Primary School.

Buses will be provided from Hines Primary School, Rolling Acres Middle School, Manual Academy, Peoria High School and Woodruff Career and Technical Center (WCTC). Buses will arrive at each site at 4:30 p.m. and transport to the Riverfront Museum at 4:45 p.m.

  • View a short film on the amazing Giant Screen Theater – it’s five by seven stories and features state-of-the-art 14,000 watt digital surround sound that you can feel and the nation’s sharpest, brightest giant screen 3D technology. Dual projection produces imagery so realistic, you might be tempted to reach out to touch objects on the screen.
  • Experience the Illinois River Encounter
  • Visit the IHSA area
  • Tour the African American Hall of Fame and George and Norma Kotteman Exhibit: A 40-year Passion for Art, featuring works on paper by groundbreaking artists including Georgia O’Keefe, George Braque, March Chagall and Alexander Calder and sculptures by Willem de Kooning and Preston Jackson. The exhibit also includes a selection of sculptural glass tracing the history of the American studio art glass movement.
  • Genome: Unlocking Life’s Code is an immersive, high-tech exhibit that captures the revolutionary nature of genomic science. The foundation of all life: unravel the mystery behind the complete set of instructions needed for every living thing on Earth. Discover what the genome is, its scale, structure and how it plays a role in modern life.

Of course, Parent University always includes a book for each student will receive a book, great prize giveaways and dinner. This month, Barracks Cater Inn will be serving fried chicken, salad, a brownie and a beverage. Plus community agencies including the Peoria City/County Health Department and The Peoria Public Library will be on hand with information and services.
