PPS Board of Education plan for re-naming school buildings
The Peoria Public Schools Board of Education Building Committee has established a priority in undertaking pertinent projects.
First on our agenda is to complete the process of renaming the remaining six schools that were identified and recommended. The schools are:
The follow timeline will take place for the re-naming procedure for the remainder of this year:
1. We will have an open period of 90 days in which we will accept recommendations of proposed names. That period will run from September 1, 2021, through December 1, 2021. No recommendations will be considered after the close date of December 1st, 2021. Recommendations are to include the designated school, the proposed name and a brief description or bio of the proposed school name. 2. It is the intention of the committee to submit the recommended names to the members of the Board of Education and Administration no later than Monday February 28, 2022.
3. Within 45 days of the names having been submitted the committee will schedule an Open Town Hall Discussion. The date, time and location of the meeting will be announced later.
For a name to be considered by the committee, it must meet the following criteria:
If submitting a person as a suggested name, the individual must have resided in Peoria, IL as an adult
The submitted name or names must have made contributions to the community, Peoria Public Schools or children
Proposed may not be a current employee of Peoria Public Schools, a relative, or a relative of a current Peoria Public Schools Board Member.
Submissions must include why you feel this person should be considered as well as a brief biography of the individual.
