Community Contribution Award recipient Laraine Bryson’s passion for public education comes naturally. Decades ago her grandmother taught in a one-room school houses in Kentucky and Ohio. Bryson has long advocated for public education in Peoria, first as a teacher and now as an attorney and executive director of the Tri-County Urban League. Currently she serves as vice president of Align Peoria and as a member of its Reading Tactic team.
Through her service on numerous boards and committees, Bryson influences central Illinois quality of life in areas like education, diversity, economic development and health. Her involvement includes serving Illinois Business Financial Services, University of Illinois Medical School community advisory committee, Bradley University Education and Health Sciences advisory committee and Tri-County River Valley Development Authority and many more.
Tri-County Urban League offers after-school tutoring, weekly Girls Who Code meetings, Tomorrow’s Scientists, Technicians and Managers Program (TSTM) program for high school students, GED adult literacy classes and job-training programs.
