Holiday concert season begins
Peoria Public Schools will be bursting with song during December with winter choral, band and orchestra concerts; community choir tours and Madrigal Dinners.
The Peoria High School, Richwoods High School and Manual Academy marching bands welcomed the holiday season in the Peoria Santa Claus parade on November 23.
Richwoods High School Madrigal Dinner performers performed on Saturday, December 1 with popular midwestern band The Way Down Wanderers during its Wander Home for the Holidays show at Peoria’s Monarch Music Hall.
Richwoods High School presents its 45th Madrigal Dinner on Friday, December 7 at 6:30 p.m. and Sunday, December 9 at 2:30 p.m. in the Terrazzo. Choir director Terry Cole coordinates the Richwoods Madrigal Dinner.
On Saturday, December 8 at 6:30 p.m., a special 45th Anniversary Alumni Madrigal Dinner will be held featuring a menu of barley soup, prime rib of, wassail, potatoes, bread and sherbet and cookies. Tickets for the alumni Madrigal celebration are $40. The event also will commemorate Wayne Macomber, longtime RHS vocal music teacher, who founded the school’s Madrigal Dinner tradition in 1974 and built its reputation until his retirement in 2001. Macomber died in 2009.
Reservations are due Tuesday, December 4.
On Thursday, December 6, the Manual Academy Choir, directed by Ann Guthrie, will spread holiday cheer to three senior care facilities and to the staff at Peoria Public School Administration Building. The choir will perform for residents at Southside Manor Apartments, Courtyard Estates and Sharon Woods Care Center.
The Peoria High School Preparatory School for the Arts (PSA) Orchestra, directed by Jason Warner, will take their music to the community with performances on December 11 at Friendship House, The Dream Center. Children's Home and Crittenton Center.
Peoria High School’s 7th Annual Madrigal Feaste, directed by Simon Webb, will be held Saturday, December 8, 6 p.m. in the PHS foyer. Approximately 70 PSA drama and choral students will provide entertainment. Woodruff Career and Technical Center (WCTC) Culinary Arts students will cater the event, serving an authentic medieval feast including oven-roasted herbed chicken, pork tenderloin medallions with wild mushroom cream sauce, roasted potatoes and root vegetables, assorted breads and desserts and wassail (mulled apple cider).
