    Peoria Public Schools is pleased to announce a new partnership with Illinois Central College. The D2 diploma/degree pilot program will provide an opportunity for students to earn their high school diploma at the same time they earn an Associate of Arts degree.

    The annual 5Essentials survey is a diagnostic assessment of a school's culture and climate. It is designed to identify organizational strengths and areas of opportunity on the five essential factors that drive school improvement. The survey solicits teacher, parent and student feedback on five essential factors: Effective Leaders, Collaborative Teachers, Involved Families, Supportive Environment and Ambitious Instruction.

This award is given to top leaders under the age of 40 in the Greater Peoria area.     Illinois Central College’s TRiO Educational Talent Search (ETS) program and Peoria Public Schools are hosting the 3rd Annual Peoria High School College and Career Fair. The event is scheduled for Thursday, October 4, 2018, at Peoria High School, from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The ETS College and Career Fair is designed to expose students to various educational institutions and professions in order to make critical connections and receive advice in making decisions for the future.   • Students hear experiences of foreign exchange students

    Two foreign exchange students from Germany and Otto Lahdensivu, a foreign exchange student from Finland who attends Peoria High School, spoke to students about their experiences during Foreign Language Week in March. The students from Germany live with families in Crystal Lake and Huntley, Illinois. The event was sponsored by Youth for Understanding Intercultural Exchange programs.

  • Senior Wallace named 2018 Annie's Girls

    State Representative Jehan Gordon-Booth surprised senior Destiny Wallace on Friday by naming her one of the Annie's Girls for 2018. The scholarship program, named in honor of Gordon-Booth's mother, Annie Jo Gordon, awards senior female students from each high school in the 92nd district a prom package underwriting the costs of dress, hair, makeup and nails, plus the opportunity to be mentored by a local professional woman. Annie's Girls mentors commit to building a one-on-one relationship with the high school girls, including a day of job shadowing.

  • Senior Buddies pay Valentine visit to Heartland

    The Peoria High School Senior Buddies program was created to advance the Social Emotional Learning (SEL) initiative of Peoria High School and Peoria Public Schools. According to PHS Assistant Principal Devon Hawks, data shows that students learn best from peers and that students grow by being an example to others. “With that data in mind, we chose to partner PHS seniors with incoming freshmen. We hope the freshmen can learn from the seniors and the seniors grow as they mentor the freshmen.”

  • Peoria Promise Foundation College Tuition Program - Making futures Bright!

    Peoria Promise is a college tuition reimbursement program for City of Peoria high school graduates to further their education at Illinois Central College. 50% to 100% tuition reimbursement is available to all eligible applicants. Percentage is based primarily on financial need as reported on the FAFSA application. The Peoria Promise Application opens February 1 through May 1, 2018 for enrollment in the Fall 2018/Spring 2019 school year.   • Ms. Edmonson's class chosen for Operation Big Book Bag

    Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. Gamma Rho Chapter has chosen Ms. Edmonson’s class to adopt for their national program Operation Big Book Bag. This national program consists of the sorority’s members collecting school supply items such as: notebook paper, pens, pencils, glue sticks, rulers, thesauri, dictionaries, and many other supplies needed. The other component to the program consists of mentoring and tutoring provided to the students. The overall goal of Operation Big Book Bag is to provide students with reference materials and the necessary tools to effectively meet the educational needs of students. These supplies will be delivered on February 9th.

    Three Peoria Public School teachers, including Peoria High School dance teacher Mrs. Debra Redington, have been nominated for the 2017-2018 national LifeChanger of the Year award and now need the community’s support via online comments to support the nomination.

  • IBCA Award Presentation

    On Friday, December 1st, the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association recognized the storied history of the coaches and athletes of Peoria High Boys Basketball teams. The IBCA honored one of just a few Illinois High School boys basketball programs that have surpassed the 1500 victory plateau making the Lions one of the premier boys programs in the state. Peoria HS Boys Basketball total of 1795 wins is the 6th on the all-time list of victories in Illinois. Peoria High has finished in the Final 4 a total of 14 times, including a record 9 championship appearances. The Lions have won the Illinois State Championship 5 times. Thank you to all Lion basketball players. You make Peoria High School the Pride of the City.

  • PHS dance team raised over $7,000 for CASA

    On Saturday, November 4, our very own Javier Guyton and dance partner Destini Edwards were featured at the CASA event, “Dancing with the Local Stars!” They spent 2 months with Mrs. Redington on Sunday mornings fine-tuning their skills and learning a dance that would wow the audience! Their dance to Hallelujah/Good to Be Alive, which incorporated a variety of dance styles from ballroom to hip hop, brought the entire crowd of almost 800 people to their feet! PHS raised over $7,000 to benefit the CASA program which advocates for abused and neglected children in the Peoria area. The community of Peoria was treated to a fine example of the remarkable things that take place at the Pride of the City every day! Congratulations PSA dancers for another job well done!!!

  • PHS readers featured on National Endowment of the Arts website

    During the 2016-2017 school year, the Peoria High School Book Club read Tayari Jones' Silver Sparrow as part of the Peoria Public Library Big Read program, so it was a special treat when the author visited the school and met with the students.     The Peoria Public Schools grading committee met in the spring of 2017 to discuss the changed grading procedures and what might need adjusted based on student, parent, teacher and administrator feedback.
