  • Southside Farmers Market offers fresh food in November

    A number of community organizations including Peoria Public Schools, City of Peoria, Peoria City/County Health Dept., OSF and Greater Peoria EDC are collaborating to bring a Farmers Market to the old Aldi/Save-A-Lot parking lot the first three Saturdays in November. On November 9, 16 and 23 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the corner of Western Ave. and W. Martin St. shoppers will find fresh, affordable food. Dietetic teams from WIC and OSF will be at the market with recipes, nutrition activities and more.

  • Middle school STEM Saturdays starts September 7

    DAPCEP - a free Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) program for Peoria Public School 5th - 8th grade students will run Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., September 7 through October 5. This is the third year the Detroit Area Pre-College Engineering Program (DAPCEP) has brought its STEM program to Bradley University, the only DACPCEP program offered outside Michigan.

  • Volunteers paint murals at Trewyn

    Trewyn students and staff were greeted with bright, new hallway murals this week. Approximately 40 volunteers gathered at Trewyn School on Saturday to paint colorful murals in the hallway, as part of the City of Peoria Day of Service to honor the birthday of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Local Peoria artist Dante Watson designed and sketched the murals and then transferred his sketches to the walls so volunteers could fill in with paint. Thanks to all who helped with this project!

  • Peace Pals work on reading, math skills

    Peace Pals, a community volunteer reading buddy program at Trewyn School, serves first, third, fourth and fifth grade students. The program actually started at Garfield School and carried on at Trewyn when Garfield closed. Volunteers visit Trewyn at least twice each month to work one-on-one with students on reading and math skills. Twice a year the Peace Pal volunteers and students meet for a celebration.

  • Saturday University offered to students in grades 3 and 6

    This month Peoria Public Schools introduces Saturday University, a new learning opportunity for third and sixth grade students to sharpen and strengthen math and reading skills. Beginning October 21 and meeting from 9 a.m. to noon on 20 Saturday mornings through April 14, Saturday University will be open to 100 students. The program will be held at Glen Oak Community Learning Center and bus transportation will be provided. Bradley University students and Caterpillar Inc. volunteers will work with students, as well as certified teachers and teacher aides.   • Trewyn students collect school supplies for Houston school

    Trewyn K-6 students and staff spent two weeks collecting school supplies for an elementary school in Houston, Texas. Trewyn "adopted" a classroom at Heritage Elementary School to help provide supplies for students due to flooding in their school building from Hurricane Harvey.

  • Parent University heads to Peoria Riverfront Museum, April 20

    The final Parent University of the 2016-2017 year will be held Thursday, April 20 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Peoria Riverfront Museum. The host schools are Rolling Acres Middle School and Hines Primary School. Don't miss this evening of fun family activities!

  • PIZZA PARTY CONTEST

    UnityPoint Health Methodist Trewyn School health clinic and Trewyn School are partnering for a Pizza Party Contest. The 5th grade class having the highest percentage of students turning in 6th grade physical and shot papers by March 30 will win!

  • Day treatment students learn from Kiwanis to pay it forward

    Earlier this year Day Treatment School became one of the first schools join the Adopt-A-School program. The Kiwanis Club of Peoria South-West adopted Day Treatment, and their members have very kindly given the school and its students much of their time, effort, and kindness.
