Meet Dr. Cruz, Assistant Principal
Hello Lincoln family,
My name is Michelle (Shelly) Cruz, and I will proudly serve as one of your assistant principals at Lincoln K-8 School this year. I grew up in the small town of Carlinville, Illinois. Education was a second career for me after working in the legal field for several years. I have served the field of education for over 17 years now, as both a teacher and a school administrator. I’ve taught various grades from K through 8th grade, with the majority of my teaching experience as a middle school reading and language arts teacher. I served as an assistant principal at a large K-8 school in Florida for several years before returning to Illinois. I went back into the classroom upon my return, teaching at both Quest Charter School and Glen Oak Learning Center. I am excited to step back into the assistant principal role and work with such an amazing leadership team.
I earned my bachelor’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Rockford College, while working full-time as the Assistant to the Vice President of Academic Affairs. Where there is a will, there is a way. I went on to earn my master’s degree in Educational Leadership and my doctoral degree in Instructional Leadership, both from Nova Southeastern University in Florida. I hold teaching certification K-8 with endorsements in language arts, social sciences, reading specialist and gifted education, as well as General Administration/Principal certification. I am definitely a life-long learner.
I am looking forward to the new school year and working with the Lincoln K-8 community. We are dedicated to the success of all of our students and prepared to do what it takes to reach it. If I can be of assistance in any way, please do no hesitate to contact me. I am excited to work in partnership with you.
