In response to Peoria Public Schools superintendent Dr. Sharon Desmoulin-Kherat's charge to explore ways to address the learning loss caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, the Balanced Calendar Committee has been formed to explore the feasibility of the Balanced Calendar starting with the 2022-2023 school year.
This process began at the December 2020 Board of Education meeting with a presentation to board members about the work the Balanced Calendar Committee did in 2017 and 2018 and the timetable moving forward with this current iteration of the Committee.
Throughout the months of January and February, the Balanced Calendar Impact Committee and its subcommittees met to uncover the concerns and hurdles around implementing a Balanced Calendar and to brainstorm potential solutions. The committee and subcommittees were made up of more than 50 individuals across different stakeholder groups in the community.
At the Feb. 22 board meeting, the Balanced Calendar Impact Committee's initial draft plan was presented to the board.
On March 16 and 17, Virtual Town Hall meetings were held to answer questions directly submitted by Staff and Families. You can find the video recordings and transcripts of those two town halls here:
