Denise Jackson is entering her third year as a Substitute Teacher for Peoria Public Schools.   This is her first year at Woodruff Career and Technical Center.  Last year she was a Rough Rider staff member at Roosevelt Magnet School and prior to Denise worked at Sterling.   She is a native Peorian, who after 30 years in Broadcast Journalism, switched careers to become an educator.   She spent 19 years working at WEEK-TV.  After graduating from Bradley University, she began her Journalism career in Buffalo, New York, and spent 11 years in Upstate NY before relocating back home to Peoria in April of 1999.

She attends St. Paul Baptist Church and is active in Christian Education programs.  Denise is president of New Town Neighborhood Association, board member of Southside Community United for Change, and a former board member of the Tri-County Urban League.  Denise is also a candidate for the 1st District Peoria City Council.   She likes raising money for worthwhile causes and would gladly take a donation for her city council campaign.   In her spare time, Denise enjoys traveling, reading, and music.
