Doug Goessman

2017-18 is my 10th year teaching Visual Arts at Richwoods High School.  Over my eight years here I have taught courses in ceramics, sculpture, graphic design, painting and dual credit art(ICC).  I am currently for 2015/2016 teaching ceramics and sculpture.

Before coming to Richwoods High School, I spent 16 years as a graphic designer, 13 of those years here in Peoria at The University of Illinois College of Medicine.  I have always taught art classes to adults and children outside of the school setting in the Peoria area so it was a natural transition for me to come into the High School and work with these kids.

I was born and raised in Chicago, IL(city) and received my Bachelors degree in Studio Art from Western Illinois University.  I attended WIU on 2 separate occasions for graduate school for art therapy and education.  I moved to the Peoria area (Pekin) 19 years ago but still claim an unofficial residence in Chicago (haha!)

Along with considering art educator as a career, I also am a professional exhibiting artist.  My artwork has been exhibited in galleries throughout Chicago, internationally as well as locally.  I am very involved in the art scene locally, having 2 studios in Peoria and Pekin where I am pretty regularly.  I am also busy keeping up with my great kids...

I am also involved with or have been involved in the following organizations:

ALpha Tau Omega National Fraternity
Peoria Art Guild, Peoria, IL
Contemporary Art Center, Peoria, IL - Artist and Board Member
Co-Founder, Speakeasy Art Center, Pekin, IL
Several arts organizations...

Illinois Coaches Association
United States Baseball Academy
Crossroads Baseball Series
GPBA
Founder, Peoria-Metro Furies Baseball Club
Co-Founder, Illinois Steel/3n2 Baseball Club
Coached in several other capacities...

Besides being an Art Teacher at Richwoods, I am also the Varsity Baseball Coach.  This will be my 7th season here at RHS, previously being varsity assistant for 4 years at Limestone High School.
