  • Up Close

Posted by CARMEN SANCHEZ-LORENTE on 4/20/2020 8:00:00 AM

Week of Monday, April 20 to Friday, April 24 (Formative)

    I CAN:

    • Get up close: composition

This assignment encourages you to get close to the subject. It is an exercise in viewing a common object and its details.

    • Choose an object that you see or interact with every day.
    • Focus on a small part of it, get as close as your camera will allow you to focus, and shoot away.
    • Try also with a sepia effect
    • Choose two photos to upload

From the whiskers of your cat/dog to soap bubbles, there is an entire world that we often overlook because we don't get close enough or because we are in a hurry. Pause, think, focus, enjoy, and shoot.

Also, remember to upload the two photos to both MSTeams and to our new Art 1 Board. Here is the link:

  • Playing with Images 2

Posted by CARMEN SANCHEZ-LORENTE on 4/14/2020 8:00:00 AM

Week of Tuesday, April 14 to Friday, April 17 (Formative)

Last week, we used the cameras on our phones to take pictures of objects in our daily lives. Now we are going to focus on cropping and composition

    I CAN:

    • Take two photos that stress lines (straight, curved, wavy, spiral, zig-zag, etc.).
    • Edit the images.

Here are some suggestions for what you can do:

    • You can play with how close you get to the object. You can also play with the zoom.
    • You can play with lineal perspective.

Remember to upload the new photos to MSTeams and to padlet. The link to padlet is attached to this assignment, but if you have trouble accessing it from here, it's also on my webpage.

Stay safe and have a creative day :)

  • Playing with Images

Posted by CARMEN SANCHEZ-LORENTE on 4/6/2020 8:00:00 AM

Week of Monday, April 6 to Thursday, April 8 (Formative)

Let's review what we did last week. We used the cameras on our phones to take pictures of objects in our daily lives.

    I CAN:

    • Choose two of my favorite photos from last week's assignment.
    • Edit the images.

Here are some suggestions for what you can do:

    • You can play with the contrast of the image. I recommend trying high-contrast, black and white photography (chiaroscuro).
    • You can play with the colors in the image. I recommend playing with filters.

Also, we are going to be using a great new tool called padlet, where we will be able to post all of our artwork. Here is the link:

I can take photos of Ordinary Objects:

If you have your phone, you can take photos, even of ordinary things. For example, I am making bread at home, and my daughter took this photo.
You can crop, zoom on the object, change the filters, edit the contrast and the colors... you see, all of that is enjoyable, and it is art-related.
