Peoria Public Schools is considering adopting a Balanced School-year Calendar beginning in the 2022-2023 school year. Under a Balanced Calendar, students would attend school the same number of days as they currently do. However, the summer break would be shorter, and fall and spring breaks would be longer. We know parents and caregivers have many questions about this proposed transition to a Balanced Calendar. Last week's virtual Town Hall meetings can be viewed here

In-person town hall meetings will also be held:

    Tuesday, March 23 - 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Manual High School
    Wednesday, March 24 - 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Peoria High School

We want your opinion! Please scan the QR code below and take the Balanced Calendar survey! Thank you!

    • Students in-person instruction starting Jan. 19th will have access to antigen testing in our school with parental/guardian consent.
    • Antigen testing (also known as “rapid testing”) will show results in approximately 15 minutes following the test being administered to a student exhibiting COVID-like symptoms. (The rapid test nasal swab will go less than one inch into each nostril when collection a specimen.)
    • This will allow us to keep students in school who are exhibiting symptoms such as a runny nose or mild cough.
    • This testing is optional and will only be available to students who have consent forms on file at the school.

    Good Evening Kellar Families,

It is hard to believe that the holidays are upon us! As we pause to reflect, we can’t help but appreciate how extremely blessed we are to have such an amazing group of children, families, and teachers. Thank you for your wonderful support during this difficult period of time with all of the changes that have taken place this year.

Tomorrow students will begin Distance Learning with their classroom teachers.  Teachers have been working extremely hard preparing for this next phase.  Be sure to stay in close communication with your child’s teacher to stay updated on your child’s academics during this phase.

This mode of learning will resemble the start of the 2020-2021 school year back in August. Following Winter Break, students will continue Distance Learning from Jan. 5th through Jan. 15th and staff will work remotely from Jan. 4th through Jan. 15th

    Good Evening Kellar Families,

Thank you to all our families who participated in our Family Reading Night this past Thursday.  If you have not done so already, have your child drop off their form in the basket located in the front foyer as students walk into the building. All students who participated will be given a bookmark from Mrs. Harris, our Kellar librarian, on Monday and Tuesday.

Our teachers have been working extremely hard preparing their students for our Retreat.  Starting Monday, Nov. 30th, following Thanksgiving break, all students will phase back to Distance Learning. This mode of learning will resemble the start of the 2020-2021 school year back in August. Following Winter Break, students will continue Distance Learning from Jan. 5th through Jan. 15th and staff will work remotely from Jan. 4th through Jan. 15th

Lifetouch Picture packets for B students were sent home recently.  We will not receive our A student pictures before Monday so Lifetouch has agreed to mail your child’s pictures straight to your address.  They should arrive in 3 weeks.

Peoria Public Schools is going to be very flexible with data this year for invitations to attend Washington Gifted. Since the retreat plan will be going into effect at Thanksgiving, they are postponing CogAT testing to late winter/early spring.   We will communicate new dates with teachers and parents when we have them available.   Although this is later than normal to have this assessment completed, they will still be able to do the work necessary to get invited students enrolled in Washington Gifted for next year.

All K-8 Peoria Public Schools students will receive “Student+Family Museum Fun Passes.” These passes, which are worth $150 each, will allow an entire Peoria Public Schools family of any size to attend:

      • A daytime Giant Screen Theater movie plus free popcorn
      • All Museum exhibitions
      • Any daytime Dome Planetarium shows

These passes are valid to use through May 1, 2021. Even though the Museum is currently closed due to new statewide restrictions, remember that you can use these passes until May. This is an extraordinary opportunity for our students and families, and we are grateful to the Peoria Riverfront Museum for this partnership.  We will start sending them home this Monday and Tuesday.

Remember there is no school starting this Wednesday, Nov. 25th.  School will be in session only on Monday and Tuesday and resume on Monday, Nov. 30th, with Distance Learning.

    Good Evening Kellar Families,

This Wednesday is a district SIP Day which our students will have a half-day dismissing at 12:30.  For students on the hybrid schedule, on their OFF-CAMPUS days, we need families to log into Family Access, by 10:00 AM, to complete your child's Wellness Screening. By completing this Wellness Screening, this will serve as the school's attendance check, to ensure your child is counted "present" on the days he/she are not receiving in-person instruction.

Attached is a screen shot of instructions on how to locate the Wellness Screening in Family Access.

Be sure that your child is attending their Technology, Music or Art Classes on their days at home.  To attend, go to Teams-Calendar- and click to join the class.

Our progress report grading period ended on Friday the 13th.  You will receive progress reports from your child’s teacher on the 18th or 19th.

Continue filling out the Student Self-Certification forms in the morning at home and hand them to the teachers on duty.  This saves precious time in the mornings at Drop Off.  If you need more, be sure to let the school know and we will get them to you.

I want to emphasize the importance of following the correct procedure for Parent Drop Off and Pick Up.  In order to keep the flow of traffic, it is very pertinent that parents drive south on Mt. Hawley with Kellar Primary on the right side of the street.   When coming from Giles Lane, turn right onto Mt. Hawley heading south.  This allows cars to make a right turn into the parking lot without having to cross a lane.  When cars drive north on Mt. Hawley it causes a backup of traffic which extends out into Knoxville Ave. which is very dangerous.  Thank you for your help in this matter.

AS A REMINDER:  Students will be sent home or should not come to school if they are displaying the following symptoms -  Fever (100.4°F or higher), headache, shortness of breath, cough, sore throat, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, congestion or runny nose, new loss of sense of taste or smell, nausea, fatigue, muscle or body aches.

    •    Symptoms Screening – Parents, it is vital that students who are exhibiting COVID-like symptoms should not go to school and remain at home. These symptoms screenings of your student are our first line of defense in keeping our school buildings safe and will help our return to in-person instruction be a success.

If these symptoms occur at home before or after school, please inform us so we can keep track. Students experiencing these symptoms will be able to return after 14 days or after a negative test result. Our staff will be assisting our families through this process so that our students can return to the building once it is safe and healthy for them to do so. Parents, you are key to ensuring that our buildings remain a healthy and safe environment during in-person instruction and we thank you for your cooperation.

Choice 2.) Virtual Learning @ Home 2.0 has a flexible schedule allowing parents to determine when and where students work. Students will use the Acellus platform with a Peoria Public Schools teacher guiding the learning progress.

If you have not done so already, please sign up on Sign Up Genius at:
    https://www.signupgenius.com/go/70A0944A8AD2BA7F49-kellar
to schedule an appointment to pick up your child’s device at the school.  The link is also on PTO Facebook Page.

I have been in touch with the Peoria Public Library and have received a list of Kellar Top Readers.  I am excited to announce their names next week!

Teachers are back in session starting tomorrow preparing for the school year.  They are very excited and are looking forward to reaching out to you and your child.  Class lists will be posted this Wednesday, August 19th at 4:00 p.m.

We are safe, we are responsible, and we are respectful because WE ARE KELLAR!

    Good Evening Kellar Families,

This is Mrs. Baron with your summer announcements.  I hope you are making time each day to read.  Did you know reading everyday can help you to be successful in school?  Reading daily can raise your achievement & give you more opportunities in the future.  I am attaching our Fun Summertime Readers video staring Kellar students reading over the summer!

Parents if you have not done so already, please encourage your child to wear their mask at home.  You can start out with smaller periods gradually getting longer so when your child returns to school, they will be used to wearing their mask.  A great idea is to have them wear their mask while they are reading or using screen time.

You’ll find a Kellar Arrival/Dismissal and Kellar Latchkey video attached.  This should give you some helpful information on the plans we’ve been working on so you can see some demonstrations of procedures.

Many of our Kellar students are going virtual this fall.  Therefore, we have had to close down one of our classrooms to allow for a teacher to go virtual. Mrs. Christy will be moving from 4th grade to 1st grade and Mrs. Gorman will be teaching virtual only.  We appreciate your understanding & flexibility as we accommodate for everyone’s learning preference.

    Here are super important updates:
    •    Students should plan to bring a water bottle to school since we won't be using our water fountains.
    •    Masks are required for all students.
    •    On the A/B hybrid model, student hours are from 9:30 a.m.-3:00 p.m.
    •    A-schedule students begin on Wed, Aug. 19.
    •    B-schedule students begin on Thurs, Aug. 20.
    •    Fri. Aug. 21 is an off-campus independent learning day for all students and Fri. Aug 28 will be an A day, not B as previously scheduled.
    •    We will post class lists on the front doors of the school on Friday, Aug. 14 at 4:00 p.m.
    •    HP Streams (little laptops) will be issued on a student’s first day in-person.  You can look for them to come home with instructions & be ready for use on their virtual days.

The best way to reach the Kellar Office is to email Ana.Zeisel@psd150.org for an appointment.

Well, Kellar Colts, I sure am looking forward to seeing all of you!  I can’t wait to hear about your summer reading & other summer fun experiences you’ve had.  We are Respectful, We are Responsible, We are Safe, because We Are Kellar!

    Good Evening Kellar Families-

This is Mrs. Baron with your weekly summer announcements.  August is here & we are gearing back up for school to be in session!  We are excited to receive your students and look forward to getting back into the routine of learning. We know you are getting information from everywhere: news, social media, etc but we can assure you numerous health, wellness and sanitizing protocols have been implemented specific to Kellar.   I have attached our Kellar return to school plan and Drop off/Pickup Procedures for your reading enjoyment.  It's filled with lots of information regarding protocols and how school will look for students.   Below we have made an easy list for parents to stay abreast of what is happening and keep things straight.

Read this if your student is returning for in-person instruction
    1. Know if your student attends on "A" or "B" days.  Here is our first week:   Wednesday, Aug 19- First day for "A" day students; Thursday, Aug 20- First Day for "B" students; Friday, Aug 21- NO IN PERSON SCHOOL- off campus learning day for students.  If you have not received a letter and unsure if your child is ''A" or "B," send an email to ana.zeisel@psd150.org.
    2.   Re-enroll online with Family Access.   https://www.peoriapublicschools.org/Domain/15
    3.  Send your student in a mask every day.  They need one to enter the building for their temp check and breakfast at 9:15 every day they are on campus.    Please purchase 3 cloth masks - 2 for home washing and 1 to keep at school.
    4. Our schedule for this year is 9:30-3:00.  Students will receive 5 hours of instruction (math, reading, science, and social studies only) and a 30 minute lunch, in one classroom.  Teachers will change rooms, students will not, to decrease exposure.  Upon exiting the building, the students will grab breakfast and lunch for their following day, off campus.
    5.  Do you have a Kindergartner?  School physicals with updated immunizations & dental exams are due!  Get your appointments made!
    7.  Lastly, grab some school supplies & make sure uniforms are good to go! Our Kellar PTO has some awesome Kellar Spiritwear for you to checkout which students can wear everyday during our hybrid A/B schedule with uniform bottoms.  There are many colors along with youth and adult sizes.  Even lanyards, masks, cinch packs, and tumblers are available.  You can either go to https://kellarspiritwear.itemorder.com/sale or check it out on the Kellar Facebook page.  All orders must be completed by Sunday, August 9th.
Read this if your student is returning as virtual only
    1.  If you requested virtual learning but still received a letter...don't fret.  The letters went out prior to the online registration closing.  All virtual requests made on or before July 24th were honored.
    2.  Virtual learning is NOT like remote learning from the spring.  Students are expected to work for 5 hours, grades are issued and attendance is mandatory.  See attachment for more information regarding expectations.
    3.  Streams will be sent home with students on the first day of school.
    4.  Grab and go lunches will be available Monday-Friday when school is in session from 1:15-1:30 at the front doors of Kellar for virtual students only.
Our secretary, Mrs. Zeisel, is back in the building today and will be able to answer questions and help you!  Please call the office at 309-693-4439 or email ana.zeisel@psd150.org to make an appointment.

Please remember that our plan is fluid and will change as needed.  Have a great week!
    Mrs. Baron
