State Rep. Jehan Gordon-Booth, D-Peoria, will host College Prep Night, a college affordability workshop, on Tuesday, Feb. 21 from 6 – 8 p.m. at Illinois Central College (ICC) North in Arbor Hall Room 111 and Room 112. Representatives from ICC, Robert Morris College, Midstate College, OSF St. Francis Medical Center College of Nursing, Methodist College and Bradley University will be available to meet with students. Students can register by calling 309-681-1992 or emailing RepJGordon@gmail.com
“People in our community should not have to put their dreams on hold because of the high cost of college tuition, regardless of their families’ income,” Gordon-Booth said. “It’s my hope that local students and families will attend this workshop to learn about the programs and resources that are available to make school more affordable.”
Gordon-Booth will be joined by representatives from the Illinois Student Assistance Commission (ISAC) for the free workshop. The presenters will provide information about the financial aid process and discuss programs that are available to help families save money. ISAC will also share tips for completing college applications and strengthening resumes.
“Students don’t have to feel torn by the decision to either take on a lifetime of student loans or put off going to college,” Gordon-Booth said. “The resources and opportunities that ISAC will discuss at College Prep Night will help families make informed decisions about higher education and how to manage the costs associated with going to school.”
