32 students travelled to Danville, Illinois to attend the HBCU Experience on October 13. Students met with representatives from Historically Black Colleges and Universities as well as members of the Divine nine fraternities and sororities. Bruce Clark won the grand prize of the Acer Chromebook in the raffle for pre-registered students attending.
The Counseling, Social Work Team, and clerical team Stomps Out Bullying during Bully Prevention Month along with students and staff at the beginning of Homecoming week on October 3, 2016.
October is College Manual Counselors, an ISAC representative and an ICC Admissions representative were on hand to assist parents and students to complete their FAFSA application and sign up for their FSAid on October 3. FAFSA opened up October 1, 2016. Students were encouraged to complete the FAFSA and apply to their school of choice by November 1.
Students from Manual Academy attended the Peoria County Bar Association Diversity Luncheon at the Spalding Pastoral Center on September 29. The students attended a question and answer session with Vincent F. Cornelius, the president of the Illinois Bar Association followed by a luncheon where they were able to network with professionals in the law as well as other students and staff from local high schools.
7th and 8th grade students have been working together to build positive and healthy friendships. Students were asked to describe themselves through pictures and words. It has been a great way for students from Harrison and Trewyn to build rapport and respect with each other. #AllLivesMatter
The Methodist Nursing School Explore program started out with a bang Thursday evening with 15 Manual Academy Health Career students trying out robotic manikins used to teach skills to nursing students. Students were excited to see such active learning and are looking forward to earning their lab coats after attending to 3 sessions. Students who choose to be part of the Explore program get to meet monthly at the new Methodist School of Nursing to continue learning about nursing and to practice hands-on activities.
Manual Academy’s Health Career classes enjoyed a visit from AMT this week. The EMT speaker shared her career with the classes and also taught some of them how to do CPR and how to handle choking with an infant. One class got to sit in the ambulance and hear personal EMT stories from our favorite EMT, Yolanda. Overall, students had a great time!!!
