On Tuesday, November 8, Peoria county voters will consider whether to support The Peoria County School Facilities Sales Tax. If approved by voters, the ½% sales tax would generate $9 million annually to be shared among all Peoria County public school districts, based on enrollment. The Peoria Public Schools would receive approximately $4.2 million annually. The revenue is to be used specifically for school building improvements. The Peoria Public Schools building and grounds staff has assessed the needs of each building in the District. Here is the plan for Harrison Community Learning Center.
Harrison Community Learning Center celebrated Hispanic Heritage Month on Friday, October 14 with songs and dances. Kindergarten through 4th grade and students from the after-school program performed and recited facts they have learned about Mexico and other Spanish-speaking countries. The students have been learning one Spanish word each day during announcements and some English-speaking students have learned to recite the Pledge of Allegiance in Spanish simply through active listening.
On Friday, October 7, Harrison Community Learning Center hosted the first Donuts with Dads! Students invited their dads or significant male figures in their lives, to enjoy donuts and juice with them. Afterwards, students went to class, and Mrs. Daniels, the principal, and other support staff members had an open conversation with the men. They were allowed to share any comments, concerns, or family involvement ideas they want to see happening at Harrison. The turnout was great and the conversations were awesome!
Harrison faculty and staff members joined the nation to help Stomp Out Bullying by wearing blue in recognition of Blue Shirt Day/World Day of Bullying Prevention! We showed our students that we stand in unification towards having an anti-bullying school.
Students at Harrison Community Learning Center enjoy after school activities like: cooking, dance, chess, art, yoga, basketball, book club, Spanish club, and homework club. Teachers at Harrison Community Learning Center volunteer their time after school Mondays through Thursdays so students have the opportunity to extend their learning through fun activities!
The new school year starts with a focus on PBIS so every student knows what to expect. At Harrison Community Learning Center students visited PBIS Learning Stations of Expectations located throughout the school in order to promote a positive learning environment for the school. Students are reinforcing Harrison’s Matrix of expectations; Respect, Responsibility and Ready to Learn!
Harrison will be hosting our Fall Festival on Thursday, October 27 from 5:00 to 6:30. Come for games, food and the chance to pie Mrs. Daniels!!
Welcome to Harrison Community Learning Center!
We are soaring to greater heights with high expectations and excellence!
