Flip ended this remarkable year of learning and exploring with a game day. This year marks the end of Harrison Community Learning Center’s first year ever of FLIP. Students celebrated with several carnival type games and of course prizes for all games won. This year has been a great start to a new program brought to the school. The program was modeled after a previous program here at Harrison School which unfortunately ended. 21st Century incorporated aspects of science, homework, reading, creativity and sports, which is very similar to how FLIP was designed and implemented.
FLIP celebrated Mother’s Day with our parents this year. Students created flower pots for flowers we previously planted. Students wrote a loving message to their mothers and then posed for a portrait. Those portraits were then placed in picture frames that were also created and designed by students. The final part of our celebration was to encourage our mothers to relax on Mother’s Day with a nice cup of tea.
This year fifth grade teachers at Harrison Community Learning Center decided to reward well-behaved students with a short walk to Tall Bob’s for some ice cream and slushes. The trip was a huge success and a big thank you from teachers to our students for behaving well this year. Students purchased items ranging from ice cream to foot-long popsicles.
Harrison administrators honored teachers for their hard work and dedication this week celebrating Teacher Appreciation Week! Teachers received daily perks for doing a great job teaching Harrison students this year. Teachers received special gifts this week which included an extended lunch hour, a massage, yummy snacks, raffle prizes, and a “Cinco de Mayo” fiesta luncheon on Friday sponsored by Harrison’s PTO. Harrison teacher felt very appreciated and thankful!

Our February Family Night centered on Black History Month. Students at Harrison Community Center presented their History Fair projects focused on Black History to judges from the district (Vera Smith and Rebecca Lindholm) as well as ICC students and Dr. Kamara. Students chose history topics that were interesting to them and used research skills to learn more about their topics. Students enjoyed sharing their history boards with the judges, students, and parents. After the viewing of the project, students enjoyed reading with parents and taking AR tests. The night ended with a “Soul Food” dinner that was delicious!
Denazia Porter will represent Harrison Community Learning Center at the Future Chefs competition on March 11 at Lincoln K-8. Porter will prepare her recipe for Loaded Potato Casserole.

In December, Harrison Community Learning Center 6th grade Girls in Real Life Situations (GIRLS) group coordinated the annual Dimes at Christmas Time service project for the Salvation Army. The girls set a goal to collect at least $200 for The Salvation Army and challenged the Harrison community to help. The reward for raising at least $200 would be a school-wide Spirit week with activities suggested by students.
On December 20, 2016, Harrison students performed holiday songs for the Winter Concert. In addition to listening to holiday songs performed by students for their parents, students and parents were served a yummy Avanti spaghetti dinner by our wonderful Harrison Staff! After dinner, students enjoyed watching, “The Polar Express”, on a Cinema-size screen in the gym. Parents were invited to complete the 5Esential survey for Harrison School in the computer lab. We had a great turn out and enjoy fellowship time with Harrison students and families.
Welcome to Harrison Community Learning Center!
